CHAPTER 106.
An Act to provide for building a Bridge over the Pa-
tapsco Falls, at or near the Thistle Factory.

Preamble

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly by
the petition of a number of inhabitants of Baltimore and
Anne Arundel counties, that it would tend greatly to their
accommodation and convenience, and to that of the public
generally, to have a bridge erected over the Patapsco Falls
at or near the Thistle Factory.

Section 1. Be it enacteaby the General Assembly of
Maryland, That John S. Williams and Anthony Smith,
of Anne- Arundel county, ana George Ellicott, junior, and
Benjamin Palmer, of Baltimore county, be and they are
hereby appointed commissioners, and are authorised and
empowered to contract for, superintend and direct, the
building of a bridge over the Patapsco Falls, at the most
suitable point at or near the Patterson Viaduct, so as to
unite the roaxl of Anne-Arundel, with that of Baltimore
county leading by the Thistle Factory to the city of Balti-
more; Provided, that the said commissioners shall not pro-
ceed to act unless, in the opinion of the county commis-
sioners of Anne-Arundel amd Baltimore counties, the mutu-
al interests and conveniencies of said counties require the
erection of said bridge.

Proviso

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, that the commissioners of
Anne- Arundel and Baltimore counties, be and they aro
hereby authorised and empowered, at their next annual
levies, to levy upon the assessable oropertv of said coun-
ties a sum of money not exceeding seven hundred and fifty
dollars, exclusive of the commission allowed for collection,
to be applied to the building of the bridge aforesaid, one
moiety of Which sum of money shall be levied on the as-
sessable property of Anne- Arundel county , and the other
on that of Baltimore county, which said assessment shall
be made, levied, collected and paid, to the commissioners
or their order, as soon as the same shall be collected, and
in case the collector or collectors of either of said counties
shall neglect or refuse to pay the sum by him collected, to
the said commissioners, or their order, the said commission-
ers shall have the same remedy for the recovery of the same
as is prescribed by law for the speedy recovery of money le-
vied and collected by sheriffs and collectors; Provided, that
before the said commissioners shall be entitled to receive any
money in virtue of this act, they shall enter into bonds to
the state of Maryland in the penalty of double the amount
of the whole sum hereby authorised to be levied, for the
