BALTIMORE, Jan. 26th, 1874.
Hon. John Lee Carroll,

President of the Senate :

SIR :—You are hereby respectfully requested to extend an
invitation to the Senate of the State of Maryland, to partici-
pate in the meeting in behalf of the Centennial .Celebration of
American Independence, to be held at Concordia Opera
House, in this city, as per enclosed notice.

It is expected that the President of the United States,
Heads of Departments, United Stateb Senators, and Members
of the House of Representatives. Judges of the Supreme Court,
and other distinguished gentlemen will be present.

Addresses will be delivered by leading members'of the Cen-
tennial Commission, from Philadelphia, and also from the
Senate and House of Representatives.

As Maryland is one of the original thirteen States, she is
expected to take a prominent part.

We sincerely trust your Honorable Body; will find it con-
venient to be present.

Ordered, That the President of the Senate, on behalf of its
members, accept the invitation to attend the meeting, to be
held in the Hall of Concordia Opera House, Thursday even-
ing at 7 1/2 o'clock, P. M., on the subject of the Centennial
Commission, and in accepting the invitation, the President is
