on the fourth Wednesday of October, in the year eighteen
hundred and seventy-five, and on the same day in every sec-
ond year thereafter, the inhabitants of Baltimore city and
county, qualified by law to vote in. said city and county, for
Members of the House of Delegates, shall elect a person to be
Mayor of Baltimore city and county, who shall have such
qualifications, receive such compensation, discharge such
duties, and have such powers as are now prescribed by law
for the Mayor of Baltimore city, or as may hereafter be pre-
scribed by law for the Mayor of Baltimore city and cuuuty,
and the term of whose office shall commence on the first Mon-
day of November succeeding his election, and shall continue
for two years, and until his successor shall have been qual-
ified.

Sec. —. And be it enacted, That at the same time an elec-
tion for members of the First Branch and Second Branch of
the Council of Baltimore city and county shall be held, and
for members of the First Branch on the same day in every
year thereafter, and for members of the Second Branch, in
every second year thereafter, and the sessions of said Council
shall commence and continue as is now prescribed by law for
the sessions of the City Council, and the qualification for
electors of the members of the Council, shall be the same as
those prescribed for the electors of the Mayor."

Which was read.

Mr. Davis moved a call of the Senate.

Mr. Williams moved that further proceedings under the
call be dispensed with.

Which was adopted.

Pending the consideration of the substitute to the pending
bill,

Mr. Davis moved a call of the Senate.

The President directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to inform ab-
sent Senators that their presence was required in the Senate

Chamber.

Mr. Stevens moved that further proceedings under the call
be dispensed with.

Which was adopted.

At 4 o'clock, P. M., the Senate resumed the consideration
of the order of the day.

Mr. Davis moved a call of the Senate.
