Which was read and referred to the Committe on Agri-
culture.

Mr. Stevens, from the Committee on Elections, reported
unfavorably on

The Senate bill entitled au Act providing for the Registra-
tion of the Voters of the State, repealing the Act passed
January Session, 1870, chapter 459, entitled an Act to repeal
an Act passed January Session, 1868, relative to Registra-
tion of Voters, and to enact other provisions in lieu thereof,
and substituting the following in its stead, and

The report was adopted.

The President laid before the Senate the following commu-
nication :

BALTIMORE, March 23rd, 1874.
To the President

Of the Senate of Maryland :

At a mass-meeting of about two thousand citizens of Mary-
land, held yesterday at Ford's Grand Opera House, in Balti-
more, Mayor Vansant presiding, the following Preamble and
Resolutions were unanimously adopted :

WHEREAS, The Maryland Inebriate Asylum having been
chartered by the State, inaugurated, furnished and equipped
by the contributions of the ladies of Maryland, and by private
subscriptions from merchants and others; and

Whereas, Its practicability and usefulness having been
satisfactorily established, after nearly three years experience,
and the Institution being a necessity to save valuable men; it
is therefore

Resolved by this meeting of Citizens, That the bill now in
the hands of the Committee of Ways and Means of the House
of Delegates, which provides for an appropriation of $100,000,
for the purpose of purchasing a suitable location and the erec-
tion of buildings for the Asylum, meets our approval; and
further, that we do most earnestly urge upon the Committee,
the necessity of prompt action in the premises, as well as a
favorable report on the same.

Resolved, That a copy of these Resolutions, signed by the
Chairman and Secretary, be immediately transmitted to the
Speaker of the House of Delegates and President of the
Senate of Maryland, and Chairman of the Committee on
Ways and Means.
