Which w.as read the first time.

Mr. Stevens, from a Select Committee reported favorably a
bill entitled "An Act for the relief of Bank of Commerce
cancelling 3,800 shares in the capital stock thereof, represent-
ing a portion of its assets and reducing the par value of all
other shares in its capital stock."

Which was read the first time.

The Clerk of the House of Delegates, appeared and de-
livered the following message :

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 21st, 1874:
Gentlemen of the Senate :

The hour of 1 o'clock having arrived, we are prepared to
go into the election of State Treasurer, we have named on
the part of the House, Messrs. Barnes Compton and Henry H.
Goldsborough, and we have appointed on the part of the
House as tellers to receive and count the ballots, Messrs.
Clark and Weir.

By order,

MILTON Y. KIDD,

Chief Clerk.

In accordance with the message sent to the House of Dele-
gates January 19th, the hour of 10 o'clock having arrived,

The Senators proceeded to deposit their ballots in the ballot
box, which was delivered to Messrs. Tuck and Blake, who,
conjointly with the Committee of the House of Delegates,
retired from the Senate Chamber to count the ballots.

Said Committee having performed their duty returned with
the following report:

The Committee appointed by the Senate and House of
Delegates to count the votes cast for Treasurer of Maryland,
beg leave to report, that

The votes cast by the Senate, were in number - - 25
The votes cast by the House of Delegates were, in
number, ------------- 82

Making in all, --------- 107

Of which number Barnes Compton received 83 votes, and
Henry H. Golosburough 23 votes, and there was one blank
ballot.

We therefore respectfully report that Barnes Compton
