its duties, and to appropriate a sum to defray the expenses
thereof.

On motion by Mr. Stevens,

Leave was granted to the Committee oa the State Board of
Health to report a bill to establish a State Board of Health.

On motion by Mr. Tuck,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceedings
to report a bill entitled "An Act to provide for cases of
vacancy in the Office of Governor, according to the seventh
section of the second Article of the Constitution.

Mr. Tuck submitted the following message to the House
of Delegates,

BY THE SENATE,

January 20th, 1874.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We propose with your concurrence an interchange of
service, between the Chaplains of the two Houses, to be ar-
ranged between themselves.

By order,

AUGUSTUS GASSAWAY,

Secretary.

Which was read assented to, and sent to the House of
Delegates.

Mr. Tuck, from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings, to
which leave had been granted, reported a bill entitled '' An
Act to repeal an act passed at January Session 1870, chapter
441, So far as the same applies to Frederick County.

Which was read the first time.

The hour of 12 o'clock M., having arrived,

On motion by Mr. Blake,

The Senate, agreeably to the provisions of the Act of Con-
gress of the United States, entitled an "Act to regulate the
times and manner of holding elections for Senators in Con-
gress, approved the 25th day of July, A. D. 1866, proceeded
by viva voce vote of each Senator present to name one person
for Senator in Congress, to represent the State of Maryland
for six years from and after the 4th day of March, 1875.
