The President presented the following communication from
the Fifth Regiment Infantry, M. N. G.:

HEAD-QUARTERS FIFTH REGIMENT INFANTRY, M. N. G.,

Baltimore, 28th February, 1874.
Hon. John Lee Carroll,

President of the Senate, Annapolis, Md.:
SIR:—I have the honor to invite yourself and members of
the Senate, to attend the review of this Regiment by Gover-
nor elect Groome, on Thursday, 5th March, 1874, at Anna-
polis.

I have the honor to be,

On motion by Mr. Lloyd,
The invitation was accepted.

The Senate bill amending the Act relating to the corporate
existence of certain Banking Institutions therein mentioned,

Was read the third time and passed by yeas and nays as
follows:

Said bill was then sent to the House of Delegates.

Mr. Lloyd, from the Joint Committee appointed to wait
upon the Hon. J. B. Groome, Governor elect, and notify him
of his election to the position of Governor, submitted the fol-
lowing communication from the Governor elect :

BALTIMORE, Md., Feb. 27th, 1874.

GENTLEMEN:—I am in receipt of your communication of
the 26th instant, informing rue officially of my election by
the General Assembly to the office of Governor of the State
of Maryland, and shall, as requested by you, unless prevent-
ed by an overruling Providence, attend in the Senate Cham-
ber, at noon, on Wednesday, the fourth day of March next,
when, by the terms of the resignation of the Hon. Wm.
Pinkney Whyte, that office will become vacant, to take and
