Was re'ad the second time and ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.

On mation by Mr. Davis, it was

Ordered, That Hon. James T. Earle have leave of absence
until next Tuesday.

The Senate bill entitled an Act to authorize the sale or
lease to the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, of apart
of a lot in Baltimore city belonging to the State of Maryland,
located at the intersection of Fremont and Chatsworth streets,
and known as the "State Hay Scales Lot,"

Was read the second time and ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.

The Senate bill entitled an Act to authorize the United
States to procure the condemnation of lands within the State
of Maryland for certain purposes, and ceding jurisdiction
thereof when so condemned to the United States,

Was read the second time and ordered to be engrossed for

a third reading.

The President laid before the Senate the certificates and
affidavits of publication of the Act of 1872, chapter 242, en-
titled an Act to authorize the County Commissioners of Anne
Arundel and Calvert counties to subscribe to the capital stock
of the Baltimore and Drum Point Rail Road: Company.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Tuck, Brattan and
Earle.

The President laid before the Senate the following commu-
nication from his Excellency, Governor Wm. Pinkney Whyte:

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT,

Annapolis, February 27th, 1874,
To the Senate:

I have the honor to inform your Honorable Body, that I
have approved the following Senate bills :

No. 40. A bill entitled an Act supplementary to an Act
authorizing the County Commissioners of Allegany county to
build a new jail.

No. 41. A bill entitled an Act for the relief of the Bank
of Commerce.

No. 42. A bill entitled an Act supplementary to an Act
to establish an Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb of the State
of Maryland.

No. 43; A bill entitled an Act to lay nut and establish a
