CHAPTER 488.
AN ACT to authorize the Mayor and City Council
of Baltimore city to subscribe to the capital stock
of the Maryland Canal Company, or to endorse
the bonds of said company.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of	Authorized to
Maryland, That the Mayor and City Council of the city of Baltimore, be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to subscribe to the capital stock of	subscribe to capital stock.

mortgage bonds of said company to an amount not
exceeding one million and tive hundred thousand
dollars, upon such terms and conditions as the said
Mayor and City Council may by ordinance prescribe.

CHAPTER 489.
AN ACT to authorize the Governor to appoint one
additional justice of the peace for the secqnd elec-
tion district of St. Mary's county, and to authorize
the county commissioners to appoint an additional
constable for said district.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Governor be and he is hereby authorized to appoint one additional justice of the	Appoint jus- tice of the peace
peace for the second election district of St. Mary's
county; and that the county commissioners of said
county be authorized to appoint an additional con-
stable for said district.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.	In force
