LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Elect five

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the male citizens of

commissioners

the town of Vienna of the age of twenty-one years

 

and upwards, who shall have resided therein for the

 

space of six months, and twelve months in the State

 

next preceding the election, and shall be at the time

 

citizens of the United States, shall, on the first

 

Thursday in May next, between the hours of ten

 

o'clock A. M. and four o'clock P. M., at some

 

suitable hall to be designated by them, elect five com-

 

missioners for the said town, each of whom shall

 

have been residents therein for the space of twelve

 

months, and citizens of the United States as afore-

 

said, and twenty-four years of age.

Appoint judge
to hold election

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That a justice of the
peace residing in said town shall appoint, by writing,

 

under his hand and seal, one judge to hold the first

 

election, who shall quality according to law, and

 

conduct the said election in the same manner in

 

which the judges of election are by law directed to

 

conduct an election for Delegates to the General As-

 

sembly, so far as may be consistent with the provi-

 

sions of this act; and the said judge shall make

 

return, within twenty days thereafter, under his hand

 

and seal, of the persons so elected, to the Clerk of

 

the Circuit Court of Dorchester county, to be by

 

him safely kept.

Term or service

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the commissioners

 

so elected shall hold office as follows : one for the

 

term of five years, one for the term of four years,

 

and one for the term of three years, one for the

 

terra of two years, and one for the term of one year,

 

to be determined by lot among themselves.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That on the first Thurs-

 

day in May, in each and every year thereafter, one

 

commissioner for said town shall be elected to hold

 

office for the term of five years, who shall be quali-

 

fied in all respects as the member of the first board.

 

The commissioners of said town, or a majority of

 

them, shall be judges of all elections, and the pro-

 

ceedings thereof shall be recorded under their di-

 

rection. Every commissioner, before be proceeds to

 

act as judge of election, shall make oath that he will

 

faithfully and impartially permit every person to vote
at such election who shall be qualified to vote, and
