AN ACT to compensate Jacob Socey of Washington
|
 
|
county, for the arrest of the murderers of Captain
|
 
|
Harry Miller.
|
 
|
WHEREAS, It appears that on or about the seven-

teenth day of August, eighteen hundred and seventy,

Jacob Socey of Washington county, did receive
|
 
|
information that a murder had been committed in
|
 
|
Allegany county, together with a description of the
|
 
|
perpetrators of said murder, and

WHEREAS, The said Jacob Socey, being induced
|

thereto by the representation that a reward of five

hundred dollars had been offered by the authorities
|

of said Allegany county, did at great personal risk
|

and at considerable expense, cause the arrest of one

John Howard and one Joseph Johnson, who proved

to be the perpetrators of said murder, and one the

said John Howard was afterwards hung for the
|
 
|
offence upon testimony of said Joseph Johnson, and
