propriety of providing by law that no portion of the money
belonging to the State of Maryland, shall be deposited for
safe keeping in any bank or other monied institution of this
State, which has failed hitherto or refused to comply with the
laws of the State.

Mr. Stevens presented the memorial of the Mayor and City
Council of Baltimore, to enable the city of Baltimore to lease
or purchase a lot of ground belonging to the State, situate in
said city, for the purpose of erecting thereupon a Fire-Engine
House.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judicial
Proceedings.

On motion by Mr. Stevens,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to re-
port a bill entitled "An Act to repeal the 5th section of the
Act of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at Janu-
ary Session of 1856, chapter 109, entitled an Act to amend
an Act entitled an Act to incorporate the Fremont Savings'
Institution of Baltimore, by allowing said Institution the
privileges embraced under the Act entitled an Act to con-
tinue the corporate existence of the several banking institu-
tions therein mentioned, passed at the January Session, 1853,
chapter 441."

Also,

Leave to the Committee on Judicial Proceedings to in-
troduce a bill entitled "An Act to authorize the sale or
lease to the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, of a part of
a lot in Baltimore city belonging to the State of Maryland,
located at the intersection of Fremont and Chatsworth streets,
known as "The State Hay-Scales Lot."

On motion by Mr. McCulloh,

The Senate proceeded to the consideration of the House bill
entitled ''An Act to alter and amend the charter of the
Hampshire and Baltimore Coal Company, incorporated by an
Act entitled an Act to recognize the Hampshire and Balti-
more Coal Companies, a corporation created by and existing
under the laws of the State of West Virginia, as a corpora-
tion in the State of Maryland, and to authorize it to exercise
the power, and privileges of a corporation within the State of
Maryland, for mining and other purposes, passed at January
Session, 1864, chapter 295, by repealing the second section
thereof, and amending the same, and re-enacting it as
amended."

Which was read the third time and passed by yeas and
nays as follows:
