the Department of State, and the deplomatic representatives
of foreign counties, to our own people and to all the nations
of the earth, that such exhibition should be held, and invited
them to be present and participate in the same; and whereas,
it is proper that this exhibition should be worthy the Ameri-
can Nation, and commensurate with our claims for the high
position she should occupy among the nations of the world;
and whereas, the amount of money necessary to make this
exhibition successful is entirely beyond private means, and
should be contributed by the nation whose hundreth birth-
day it is intended, under its own auspices, to celebrate; there-
fore—

is due to their memories, to the present position of our State,
and to the progress of our country, in which Maryland shares
and claims a common interest, that this exhibition should be
worthy of our great nation, and assert for her the position
she is entitled to enjoy among the nations of the world.

And be it further Resolved, That our Senators in the Con-
gress of the United States, be and they are hereby respect-
fully instructed, and our representatives requested, to advo-
cate and vote for such appropriations as in their judgment
may be necessary and proper to carry out the purposes con-
templated by the Acts of Congress, in a manner which shall
represent our appreciation of the occasion, and the position
our country is entitled to enjoy among the nations of this
earth.
