CHAPTER 340.

 

AN ACT to confirm and enlarge the powers and au-

 

thority of the Hebrew Orphan Asylum of Balti-

 

more city; a corporation chartered under the pro-

 

visions of section twenty-six of the Code of Public

 

General Laws, entitled corporations.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Maryland, That the power and authority of the He-

 

brew Orphan Asylum of Baltimore city, a corpora-

 

tion chartered under the provisions of article twenty-

 

six of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled cor-

 

porations, are hereby confirmed and enlarged as fol-

 

lows :

SEC. 2. The number of Directors of the Hebrew

 

Orphan Asylum of Baltimore City, be and the same

 

is hereby increased from twelve to fifteen, of whom

 

one shall be elected by the corporation to act as Pre-

 

sident, and one us Vice President, and one as Trea-

 

surer.

 

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the Hebrew Orphan

Exclusive care.

Asylum of Baltimore city and the officers and Board

 

of Directors thereof shall have the exclusive care,

 

charge, custody, and control, of all children whom

 

they shall receive into said asylum until they shall

 

be, if males, twenty-one years old, if females, eigh-

 

teen years old, or any shorter period for which they

 

may be received by said corporation; and to bind

 

them out for a time not exceeding said ages of twen-

ty-one and eighteen years respectively, or such shor-

 

ter period as aforesaid, as apprentices to learn any

 

profession, trade, business, or useful occupation, or

 

may, under terms proper in the view of the said offi-

 

cers and Board of Directors, and to be by them stip-

 

ulated, place them for adoption, or as inmates with

 

any families or persons; said corporation, in the ex-

all such acts of binding or placing out being required

 

to be in writing, signed by the President or Vice

 

President of said corporation and by the persons tak-

 

ing the children as apprentices as aforesaid, and by
