buildings were taken, and giving a mortgage under
the defective act with their personal obligations, that
|

|
said mortgage would be met at maturity for the
|
|
|
balance.

AND WHEREAS, By the act. of eighteen hundred
|
|
|
and seventy-two, chapter thirty-eight, the Legislature
|
Preamble.
|
|
with a view of correcting the defect in the act of
|
|
|
eighteen hundred and seventy, authorized the said
|
|
|
Board of Visitors to use the property of the said
|
|
|
university, as a basis for obtaining a loan of the sum
|
|
|
of fifteen thousand dollars, to pay the cost of the
|
|
|
buildings constructed for and erected under the pro-
|
|
|
visions of the act of eighteen hundred and seventy.
|
|
|
AND WHEREAS, This act has also proved defective
|
Preamble.
|
|
by reason of a mistake in the wording thereof, and
|
|
|
the purposes of the same have therefor failed to be
|
|
|
accomplished.
|
|
|
AND WHEREAS, The time for which the mortgage
|

|
was executed having expired, the property is about
|
|
|
to be sold unless the amount of said mortgage is paid,
|
|
|
therefore —
|
|
|
SECTION 1. Se it enacted by the General Assembly of
|
|
|
Maryland, That the sum of ten thousand dollars be
|
|
|
and the same is hereby appropriated out of any
|
|
|
money not otherwise appropriated in the Treasury
|

of this State, for the purpose of paying for the cost
|
|
|
of the erection of the buildings connected with the
|
|
|
Washington University.
|
|
|
SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That the Comptroller of the
|
|
|
State be, and he is hereby authorized and directed
|

to issue his warrant upon the Treasurer, to pay out

of any unappropriated funds in the Treasury, the
|
|
|
sum of ten thousand dollars to the executive officer

|
|
of the Faculty of the Washington University, on the

production by said executive officer, of a full release
|
|
|
of all claims against the property of said university,
|
|
|
by reason of any mortgage, ground rent or other lien
|
|
|
thereon, created under the act of eighteen hundred
|
|
|
and seventy-two, chapter thirty ; and, provided
|
|
|
further, that before the payment of said sum, the
|
|
|
executive officer of the faculty of said university,
|
|
|
shall show to the Comptroller a resolution of the
|
|
