LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Special election

of Worcester county shall determine by ballot, at a

 

special election, to whom and under what circum-

 

stances license shall be granted for the sale of spirit-

 

uous or fermented liquors within the limits of said

 

county.

SEC. 167. And be it enacted, That said special

 

election shall be held in the several election districts.

 

of said county, on Tuesday the twenty-first day of

 

April, in the year eighteen hundred and seventy-

 

four, after three week's notice being given by the

 

Sheriff, in the several newspapers of the county, of

 

the time and purpose thereof; at which said election

 

the ballots to be cast shall have printed or written

 

on them in words and figures, " for the granting of

 

license for the sale of spirituous or fermented liquors,"

 

or " against the granting of license for the sale of

 

spirituous or fermented liquors," and the said ballots

 

so cast immediately after said election, which shall

 

open at nine o'clock A. M., and close at six o'clock

 

P. M. on that day, shall be carefully counted by

 

three judges appointed by the County Commissioners

 

for each of said election districts, who shall within

their hands and seals, of the number of ballots so-

 

cast, to the Clerk of the Circuit Court for said county,

 

who shall cause the same to be recorded and state-

 

ments of the same certified under his hand and seal

 

of office, to be printed and published once in each of

 

the newspapers of the county; and the expenses of

 

said election including the printing of said ballots,

 

the Sheriff notices, and the publication of the certified

 

statements of the result by the clerk, shall be levied

 

by the Commissioners of the county, and paid by the

 

collector thereof.

 

SEC. 168. And be it enacted, That, whenever it
