Monday of May, in the year eighteen hundred and

seventy-four, two members from each ward, and at
|
 
|
the first meeting of said council after the election
|
 
|
and qualification of the members thereof, they shall
|
 
|
be formed into said two classes; the first class shall
|
 
|
go out of office at the end of one year from the first
|
 
|
Monday of June following their election ; and the
|
 
|
second class at the end of two years from the first
|
 
|
Monday of June following their election ; and at

|
said first meeting after their election and qualifica-
|
 
|
tion, the two members from each ward shall deter-
|
 
|
mine by lot which shall hold the long and which
|
 
|
the short term ; and on the third Monday of May in
|
 
|
each subsequent year after the year eighteen hun-
|

dred and seventy-four, one member of said council

shall be elected from each ward to take the place of
|
 
|
the retiring members under the classification herein
|
 
|
provided; and all members elected to said body

after the first election herein provided, shall be
|
 
|
elected and hold office for a term of two years from
|
 
|
the first Monday of June following their election.
|
 
|
35. All vacancies in the City Council shall be filled
|
 
|
without delay from the ward or wards in which such
|

be directed by ordinance, and in case of a vacancy

in the office of Mayor, a new election to fill said

vacancy for the unexpired term shall be ordered

37. The Mayor shall, on conviction in a court of
|
 
|
law, of wilful neglect of duty or misbehavior in office,

38. The members elect of the council shall meet

shall preside at all meetings of the council in the

absence of the Mayor, or in case of his death, resigna-

election of a Mayor as herein directed.

39. The Mayor shall, by virtue of his office, see
|
 
|
that the ordinances of the city are duly and faith-
|
 
|
