WM. PINKNEY WHYTE, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR. 21

CHAPTER 21.

AN ACT to authorize the Board of County School
Commissioners of Cecil county to satisfy a judg-
ment against the Trustees of the Elkton Academy
in Cecil county.

WHEREAS, It has been represented to this General

Preamble

Assembly that there is a judgment debt of one thou-

sand dollars and some interest thereon, now held by

the Board of County School Commissioners of Cecil

county, which is a Hen upon the Academy building

and lot of land, and that since said judgment has

been held by the said Board of County School Com-

missioners the said Acadamy property has been used

and occupied for nearly six years for the public free

schools of said county, free of rent, and that the

furniture of said building, was also appropriated

and used by and for said free schools, during said

period, thereby requiring the expenditure of a large

sum of money, by said Trustees, in repairing the

building and fences and replacing the furniture,

and that the money thus necessarily expended, by

said Trustees, together with a fair rent for the prem-

ises, so as aforesaid used for the free schools, would

exceed in amount the said judgment debt and inter-

est; and whereas it seems right and proper that said

judgment should be released, in consideration of the

benefits and advantages derived, without charge by

said public schools from the use and occupation of

said academy property and furniture, therefore —

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Authorized to

Maryland, That the Board of County School Com-

release judgm't

missioners of Cecil county, be and they are hereby

authorized, if in their discretion they deem it proper

so to do, to release the said judgment now held by

them against the Trustees of the Elkton Academy.

Approved, February 13th, 1874.
