1056 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 25,

On motion of Mr. Lee, (the rules being suspended,)

Leave was granted to the Committee on Ways and Means
to introduce a bill to provide for the taxation of the property
of Telegraph Companies in the State of Maryland.

On motion of Mr. Loane, (the rules being suspended,)

Leave was granted to the Committee on Inspections to in-
troduce a bill entitled an Act to provide for the inspection of
spirituous, malt and fermented liquors.

On motion of Mr. Watkins, (the rules being suspended,)

Leave was granted to the Committee on the Judiciary to
introduce a bill to repeal an Act passed at the January ses-
sion of 1870, chapter 59, entitled an Act to direct the Attor-
ney General of the State to cause the State of Maryland to be
made a party in any case which may hereafter be brought in
any Court of this State against the Chesapeake and Ohio Ca-
nal Company.

On motion of Mr. Seth,

The rules were suspended, by unanimous consent, to en-
able Committees to report.

Mr. Seth, from the Committee on the Judiciary, reported
favorably,

A bill entitled an Act to authorize the employment of con-
vict labor on the construction and repairs of the public roads
in Anne Arundel county.

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Merryman, from the Committee on Pensions, reported
favorably,

A bill entitled an Act to pay Eliza Winingder, of the City
of Baltimore, the sum of three hundred and twenty dollars
due for pensions for the years 1870, 1871, 1872 and 1873.

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Seth, from the Committee on the Judiciary, reported
without amendments,

The Senate bill entitled an Act to authorize the Trustees of
the Providence Methodist Protestant Church in Carroll coun-
ty to sell and dispose of certain property therein, mentioned.

Which was read a second time.

Mr. Turner, of Cecil, Chairman of a Select Committee, re-
ported with amendments,

The Senate bill entitled an Act for the protection of young
fish, in the waters of Elk River and its tributaries, within
the limits of Cecil county.
