994 JOURNAL OF PEOCEEDING8 [Mar. 23,

Mr. Keech submitted the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal of this House,
that Hon. Charles A. Buchanan was prevented from taking
his seat in this House this morning by severe sickness, and
that the same cause prevents him from being in the House to-
night.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Merryman (the rules being suspended) submitted the
following order:

Ordered, That the Chairman of the Committee on Claims
issue a certificate in favor of the Executor or Administrator
of the late Robert Fowler, for four hundred and sixty-nine
dollars, the amount of mileage and per diem he would have
been entitled to had he served the session.

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Park, (the rules being suspended,)

Leave was granted to the Select Committee on Temperance
to introduce a bill entitled an Act to suppress intemperance,
and to permit the voters of Allegany county, Maryland, to
vote on the question of granting licenses to sell intoxicating
liquors.

On motion of Mr. Cooper, (the rules being suspended,)

Leave was granted to the Baltimore City delegation to in-
troduce a bill to authorize the Board of Police Commissioners
for the City of Baltimore to appoint a Clerk to the Marshal
of Police for said city.

On motion of Mr. Stake, (the rules being suspended,)

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
introduce a bill to incorporate the Maryland Canal Company.

Mr. Nutwell, Chairman of a Select Committee, reported
favorably,

A bill entitled an Act to provide for maintaining and
keeping in repair the public roads in Anne Arundel county,
and to repeal the Act passed at January session, 1870, chapter
192.

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Vanderford, Chairman of a Select Committee, (the
rules being suspended,) reported

The Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal sections 46, as
amended by chapter 255, of the Acts of the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, passed at the January session, 1872, 47,
49 and 50, as amended by chapter 384, of the Acts of the
