sioners of Harford county, to subscribe, under certain restric-
tions, and in accordance with Section 54, Article 3d of the
Constitution, to the capital stock of Turnpike Road Compa-
nies, to be constructed within the limits of said county.

The President laid before the Senate, the memorial of Wm.
P. Maulsby, in relation to the case of Joseph W. Davis, ask-
ing action by the Legislature in reference thereto.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judicial
Proceedings.

Hon. R. C. Holliday appeared and delivered a communica-
tion from the Executive, endorsed—"Executive Business."

Albert Willis, Page; Thomas Whitten, Doorkeeper ; and
James M. Lowe, Committee Clerk, appeared, qualified and
entered upon their respective duties.

On motion by Mr. Phelps,
The Senate adjourned until 12 o'clock, to-morrow.

WEDNESDAY, January 14th, 1874.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Harper.

The following Senators answered at the roll-call :

Messrs. President, Adyelotte, Blake, Billingsley, Crawford,
Claggett, Davis, Denson, Earle, Fields, Getty, Knight, Long-
well, Lloyd, McCullough, Phelps, Stevens, Steiner, Suit,

The proceedings of yesterday were read and corrected.
On motion by Mr. Earle,

The Joint Resolutions submitted by himself, yesterday,
Were ordered to be entered on the Journal, as follows :

Whereas, The Committee appointed under the provisions of
the Acts of the Legislature of 1867 and 1870, to procure and
erect a statue of the late Chief Justice Taney, upon some suit-
