on the 10th of February, 1821, chapter 128, and the Act
passed at the January session, 1870, chapter 464, relating to
Kent Narrows,

Being upon a second reading,

Mr. Thompson submitted the following amendment :

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

First section: Strike out all this section, and insert the fol-
lowing:

Sec. 1. The State of Maryland does hereby waive jurisdic-
tion over so much of her territory as may be necessary to
carry out the improvements suggested in the Report of Col.
Craighill, of the Engineer Corps, of the year 1873, in regard
to Kent Narrows, and does hereby authorize the United
States officers, having proper authority from the Secretary of
War, to proceed with such improvements; Provided, how-
ever, That the present causeway shall not be interfered with
until it becomes absolutely necessary for the progress of the
work, and also, not until sufficient money is appropriated by
the United States to dredge a channel 6 feet deep and 100
feet wide, (except at the draw,) from a 6-foot channel in
Chester River to a G-foot channel in Eastern Bay.

And be it further enacted, That all laws and parts of laws
inconsistent with this and the succeeding sections of this
law, be, and the same are hereby, repealed.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Thompson submitted the following amendment:

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Strikeout section 2 and insert the following as section 2:

And be it enacted, That the sum of $5,000 is hereby appro-
priated, out of money in the Treasury not otherwise appro-
priated, to build a draw-bridge in the place of so much of
the present causeway as may be destroyed by these improve-
ments.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Hines (Mr. Stake in the Chair) submitted the follow-
ing amendment:

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Strike out in section 2, line 2, the word "authorized," and
insert the word ''directed."

Which was adopted.
