On motion of Mr. Nutwell,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Claims to report a
bill to pay Finally Roberts & Co. and others for goods fur-
nished Tobacco Warehouse No. 2.

Mr. Merritt submitted the following message:

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

March 10th, 1874.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We have received your message asking the return of
House bill entitled an Act to repeal Article 14, section 114,
of the Code of Public Local Laws, title "Kent County," sub-
title "Justices of the Peace," and re-enact the same with
an amendment, and herewith return the same.

Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.
Mr. Annan submitted the following

JOINT RESOLUTION.

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That our
Senators in the Congress of the United States be instructed,
and our Representatives respectfully requested, to use their
best efforts to secure the passage of a law requiring the
National Banks of the United States to retain in their vaults
the gold interest they may receive from the United States
Government, upon their reserve, as a necessary preliminary
to the resumption of specie payments.

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Stewart, Chairman of the Committee on the Chesa-
peake Bay and its Tributaries, reported without amendment,

The Senate bill entitled an Act to amend the Act of Jan-
uary session, 1872, chapter 54, entitled an Act to exempt all
that portion of the waters of the Chesapeake Bay lying north-
ward of a certain line therein described, from ths operation
and effects of section 1 and 3, of Article 98, of the Code of
Public General Laws, title "Wild Fowl," and to enact other
sections to be in force and operation in and over said waters,
by repealing section 16 of said Act, and amending and re-
enacting the same.

Which was read a second time.

Mr. Nutwell, Chairman of the Committee on Corporations,
reported without amendment,
