A bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of money to
pay the claims of Daniel Caulk, Joseph F. Smith, John M.
Gaines and Otho B. Smith, executors of Otho J. Smith, C. H.
Jewett, John W. Temple, Samuel Stewart and Daniel Caulk,

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Watkins, Chairman of the Committee on Ways and
Means, reported favorably,

A bill entitled an Act for the relief of Washington College,
and to appropriate money for the same, and provide for the
education and board of one scholar from each county of the
Eastern Shore.

Which was read a first time.
Also, unfavorably,

A bill entitled an Act for the relief of Briscoe Adams, one
of the sureties on the official bond of Robert J. Bean, former
Collector of State taxes for St. Mary's county,

The unfavorable report was adopted.

Mr. Freaner, Chairman of the Select Committee to consider
the Act authorizing the appointment of Commissioners to
examine the Fisheries of the State, chapter 297, 1870, report-
ed the Senate bill entitled an Act to establish a Commission
of Fisheries of the State of Maryland, define its duties, and
to appropriate a sum of money to defray the expenses thereof,
with proposed amendment.

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

At the end of line 13, section 2, insert: "And that they
also inquire into the expediency of constructing fish-ways or
fish-ladders, to admit the passage of fish over dams or other
obstructions in the Upper Potomac, or elsewhere in the State.

The proposed amendment was adopted, and the bill, as
amended, read a second time.

Also, reported without amendment,

The Senate bill entitled an Act for the protection and pre-
servation of fish, and to encourage the breeding and culture
of fish in the waters of the State of Maryland.

Which was read a second time.

Mr. Merryman, Chairman of a Select Committee, reported
favorably,

A bill entitled an Act to repeal two Acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland, passed at January session, 1868,
Chapter 33, of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland,
