Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on Ways and Means.

Also,

The petition of R. H. T. Councell and other citizens of
Talbot county, asking permission to close certain streets and
alleys in the town of Easton.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Seth, Valliant and
Grimes.

Mr. Riley presented the petition of Charles Crew, T. B.
Daugherty and thirty-three other citizens of Harford county,
asking the extension of the jurisdiction of Justices of the
Peace to two hundred dollars in said county.

Which was read and referred to the Harford delegation.

Mr. Etchison presented the petition of John H. Under-
wood and seventy-five other citizens of Piscataway District,
Prince George's county, in opposition to a division of said
district, and transferring the same to Charles county.

Which was read and referred to the Prince George's
delegation.

Mr. Grafton presented the petition of Joseph H. Lewis and
other citizens of Harford county, asking the death penalty in
this State be changed to imprisonment for life.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.

Mr. Merryman presented the petition of Jacob Shamber-
ger, C. Fiizgerald, John O. Price and twenty others, in fa-
vor of annexing Baltimore county and eity.

Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
the Extension of the Limits of Baltimore City.

Mr. Stake presented the petition of sundry citizens of
Washington county, praying the repeal of the Fence Law.

Which was read and referred to the Washington county
delegation.

Mr. Waters submitted the following order :

Ordered, That Mr. Galt have leave of absence until
Wednesday next, to attend to important business.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Fenton submitted the following order:

Ordered, That the Attorney General of the State of Mary-
land furnish the Select Committee of this House, appointed
to consider the matter, with the information as to whether or
not it is competent to amend the charter of the Baltimore and
