Showing an increase in the expenses of the year 1873, over
those for the year 1866, of $699,26. The salaries of the
clerks in the office are prescribed by law, and the Comp-
troller has complied with the law in regard to them.

The other expenses of the office amounted, in 1866, to the
sum of $5,108.78, while those for 1873 amounted to
$4,122.98, being less than those for 1866 by the sum of
$975.80.
