The amount expended for travel expenses, in the perform-
ance of official duties, during the fiscal year 1872, was
$34.50, leaving an unexpended balance for said year, on this
account, of $2,465.50, and the unexpended balance of the
Comptroller's Contingent Fund for printing blank licenses,
protests, circulars, &c,, for said year, was $405.67.

The unexpended balance of Comptroller's Contingent Fund
for travel expenses, &c., at the close of the fiscal year 1873,
was $2,262.58, and the unexpended balance of Contingent
Fund for printing blank licenses, protests, circulars, &c.,
for same period, was $557.77.

The business of the office has been largely increased since
1866, taxing the clerks to their utmost capacity.

All of which is respectfully submitted.

Mr. Gill, Chairman of the Committee on Education, to
whom was referred

The bill entitled an Act to repeal section 3, chapter 2, and
section 1, chapter 19, of an Act passed at the January session,
1872, entitled an Act to repeal an Act passed at the January
session, 1870, entitled "Public Education," and to re-enact
the same with amendments,

Reported the same with proposed amendments.
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

Amend title by striking out the words "section three,
chapter two, and ;" amend section 1 by striking out the
words "section three, chapter two, and ;" amend by strik-
ing out the whole of section 3.

The proposed amendments were severally adopted, and the
bill, as amended, read a second time and ordered to be en-
grossed for a third reading.

Mr. Keech moved that the bill be recommitted to the Com-
mittee on Education.

Decided in the negative.
