464 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 24,

Mr Loane, Chairman of the Committee on Public Build-
ings, submitted the following

REPORT.

To the General Assembly of Maryland :

The Committee on Public Buildings, in accordance with
an order adopted, authorizing them to secure the services of
an Architect to make plans, &c. for an addition and improve-
ment to the building known as the ''Comptroller's Office," em-
ployed Mr. George A. Frederick, Architect, and the plans
made by him have been submitted to this Committee, and ex-
amined also by the Comptroller, President of Chesapeake
and Ohio Canal Company, and the Commissioner of the Land
Office, and have been approved by them. The Comptroller,
the President of the Canal Company, the Commissioner of the
Land Office, and the Insurance Commissioner, all of whom
have their offices in the present building, earnestly recom-
mend the improvement, as they have not the room for the
proper transaction of business, and many valuable papers
have to be left exposed, and liable to loss and damage ; the
deeds in the Canal Office alone, represent over twenty
millions of property, and there are many papers, deeds, &c.,
of great importance to the State, that cannot, with the
present limited accommodations, be properly cared for. We
would state that the improvements contemplated are for a
fire-proof addition to the present building ; the total cost of
said improvement will not exceed $12,000, as per Architect's
estimate.

Respectfully submitted.

H. E. LOANE,
Chairman of Committee on Public Buildings.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Latehford, Chairman of a Select Committee, reported
favorably,

A bill entitled an Act to repeal the Act of 1872, chapter
294, the Act of 1820, chapter 216, and section 44, of Public
Local Laws, titled " Prince George's County," as enacted by
Act of 1868, chapter 330, and re-enact said section 44.

Which was read a first time.

The bill entitled an Act to repeal the Act of 1872, chapter
260, entitled an Act to repeal section 28, (erroneously desig-
nated as section 38, of said Act,) of the Code of Public Local
Laws, title "Prince George's County," sub-title " Bladens-
burg;" also, to repeal sections 29 and 30 of the Code of
