444 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 20,

Mr. Merritt presented the petition of Mary A. Jones,
widow of James, to be placed upon the pension roll.

Also,

Mary Foster, widow of Wm. Jones, residents of Kent
county.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions,

Mr. Stewart, of Howard, presented the petition of eighty-
seven ladies of Savage, Howard county, in favor of a Local
Option and Damage Law.

Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
Temperance.

Mr. Staylor submitted the following order :

Ordered, That this House hold evening sessions next week,
commencing at 8 P. M., on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurs-
day evenings, and when this House adjourns on those days,
it stands adjourned until 8 P. M.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Merryman submitted the following order:

Ordered, That no Committee Clerk of this House shall ab-
sent himself from the place where his services are required,
during the session of this House, or of its Standing Commit-
tees, without procuring leave therefor from the Chief Clerk;
also, that the other employees shall not absent themselves
without procuring leave therefor from the Sargeant-at-Arms.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Maclin submitted the following order:

Ordered, That the Committee on Ways and Means inquire
into the expediency of taxing every species of property in this
State, and if they deem it expedient, to report a bill to that
effect.

Which was adopled.

Mr. Harig submitted the following order;

Ordered, That the use of this Hall be given to the House
of Refuge Band, on Tuesday evening, March 3rd, and the
members of both Houses be invited to be present.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Valliant submitted the following order:

Ordered, That Wm. H. Valliant be granted leave of ab-
sence until this day week (Friday, 27th) to visit his family.

Which was adopted.
