442 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 20,

Mr. Dawson presented the petition of J. B. Fletcher and
others, praying the passage of a law to authorize and em-
power the County Commissioners of Caroline county to re-
assess the real estate of the late William H. Gootee.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Brace presented the remonstrance of Henry Appel, A.
Willison and twenty-four other property holders of Cumber-
land, against the passage of the Senate City Charter Bill.

Also,

The remonstrance of A. L. Miller, F. Mertens, H. Myers
and fifty-six other property holders of the city of Cumber;
land, against the passage of the Senate City Charter Bill.

Which were severally read and referred to the Allegany
delegation.

Mr. Thompson presented the petition of Joel Thomas, J.
W. E. Sudler., Washington Finley and fifty-three other citi-
zens of Queen Anne's county, against the proposed law to
forbid weirs, &c., in the waters of Kent and Queen Anne's
counties.

Also,

The petition of John B. Brown and fifty others, against the
proposed law to forbid the use of weirs, &c., for catching fish
in the waters of Queen Anne's and Kent counties.

Which were severally read and referred to the Kent and
Queen Anne's delegations.

Mr. Clark presented the petition of Francis Miller, Henry
C. Hallowell, Jos. T. Moore and others, asking that the
death penalty for crime may be changed to imprisonment at
labor for a term of years or for life.

Also,

The petition of Chas. G. Porter, Caleb Stabler, Wm. John
Thomas and others, asking that the death penalty for crime
may be changed to imprisonment at labor for a term of
years or for life.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on the Judiciary.

Mr. Loane presented the petition of Mrs. Hester Ann Bar-
tholow, to be reinstated on the pension list.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.
