CHAP. 37.
|
eighteen hundred and twenty six, tor a certain tract of land
therein mentioned lying and being in Frederick county,
and recorded in the land records of said county; and
WHEREAS, the said Henry Heaffner has since deceased,
it has been ascertained that the said grantor was a foreign-
er, incapable of holding real estate, or making a good and
sufficient deed, and the property of the said grantor would
by the present laws of Maryland, escheat to the state,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
a certain deed bearing date the eighth day of July, eigh-
teen hundred and twenty six, duly executed by Henry
Heaffner, a foreigner, to Jacob Stitely, a citizen of the
State of Maryland, and recorded in the land records of
Frederick county, be and the same is hereby declared good
and valid to all intents and purposes, as much so as if the
said Henry Heaffner had been, when executing the same,
a naturalized citizen of the United States.

An act authorising the clerk of St. Mary's county to regis-
ter two negro slaves.

SECTION 1, Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
the clerk of St. Mary's county court be and he is hereby
authorised and required to register in the usual manner,
two negro slaves, the property of Bennett Greenwell, of the
District of Columbia, brought into this state by Ignatius
|

|
Millard, a citizen of St. Mary's county, without requiring
the said Millard to make the usual affidavit to the facts in
such cases provided by law; but he shall require the said
Millard to swear that the said negroes are slavey for life,
and that they were not brought into this state for the pur-
pose of speculation, and that said Ignatius Millard hath
an estate in said negroes, to take effect after the death of
said Bennett Greenwell, and that the said Greenwell hath
no power to defeat such estate.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That when the said negroes
shall be registered as aforesaid, it shall have the same force
and virtue in law, as if all the provisions in such cases
|
