RESOLUTIONS.

if the lots included as vacancy had been taken up under an
escheat warrant; Provided nevertheless, that the right ac-
quired in any part or the whole of said land oy other per-
sons, since the issuing of said warrant, under which the
said survey was made, shall not be affected by any thing
contained in this resolution.

Preamble and Resolutions relative to a riot in Washington
county

Passed Jan. 28,1834

WHEEEAS, it has been represented to this General As-
sembly, that there has been, and there is strong reasons to
believe there will be again, riotous assemblages of the la-
borers on the line of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, at
or near Williamsport, in Washington county, in which se-
veral lives have been lost, and serious apprehensions are
entertained, that injury will be done to the persons and pro-
perty of the citizens of that Town and neighbourhood; AND
WHEREAS, it has been represented, that the civil authori-
ty is incompetent to quell said rioters, and that the militia
in that neighborhood is insufficient (o subdue, and keep in
subjection said rioters; and whereas, considerable delay
must result from a reliance upon the militia in other parts
of the state, for aid in the present exigency — Therefore,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the president of the United States, be, and he is here-
by requested, to order on to Williamsport, such portion of
the military of the general government, as in bis opinion
may be necessary to protect our citizens, and prevent any
injury to the public works, and the property of individuals
in that neighborhood.
And be it further resolved, That the Governor, be, and
he is hereby requested to forward a copy of the above re-
solution, by express, to the President of the United States.

usual supplies of Stationary for the Executive and Le-
gislative Departments,
