CHAP. 146.

tice of the peace except as to the recovery of small debts;
and shall see that all the ordinances and bye-laws, duly
and faithfully executed; and he shall report annually to the
commissioners the general state of the town, with an ac-
curate account of all the monies received and expended,
with the proper vouchers, to be published in two ot' the
most public places in said town; the Burgess and Com-
missioners and^all the officers of said corporation, before

take and subscribe to the following oath or affirmation,
I do solemnly swear, (or affirm, as the case may be,) that

of my knowledge and ability, without favour, affection or

CHAPTER 146.

A supplement to an, act entitled, an act to authorise the
draining of a lottery or lotteries in Middletown, in Frede-
rick county, passed at November session, eighteen hun-
dred and nine, chapter sixty three.

Lottery act revived

SECTION 1, Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the visitors of the public school in Mid-
dletown shall be and they are hereby declared entitled to
the benefit of the act to which this is a supplement, for the

benefit of the said school; AND WHEREAS, a new mode of
drawing lotteries has been introduced, and it may be doubt-
ful whether the trustees aforesaid are authorised by the
present act of Assembly to cause their lottery to be drawn
according to such new mode, therefore,

Sec. 2. Be it enacted, That the visitors of the public
school in Middletown, or any person or persons who have
contracted for or purchased, or may hereafter contract for
or purchase the right to the scheme of a lottery authorised
to be drawn for their benefit, shall be at liberty to form,
adopt and draw a scheme of said lottery, and upon such
mode and upon such principles as shall or may be approv-
ed by the Governor and Council of Maryland.
