CHAP. 5.

not exceeding Seventy thousand dollars; for which increas-
ed stock, they may at their option either cause subscrip-
tion to be received in such manner as they may prescribe,
or may sell the same for the benefit of the company.

Roads, landings &c.
|
Sec. 11. and be it enacted, That the directors or a
majority of them, shall have power to cause to be laid out
and with the consent of the owner of the land, to open and
make passable any road or roads from any landing place
which they shall deem convenient to use on the Chesapeake
bay, or on any of the rivers, creeks or inlets, on the east-
ern shore of this state.

Bight to tax reser-
ved

Sec. 12, And be it enacted, That the state of Maryland,
hereby reserves the power to impose such tax on the funds
of this corporation, as she shall impose upon similar pro-
perty throughout this state.

Limitation
|
Sec. 13. And be it enacted, That this act shall contin-
ue and be in force for twenty years from the passage
thereof.

CHAPTER 5.
An act, entitled, an act to authorise the Levy court of Fred-
erick county, to allow an additional compensation to
James Taylor, for building a bridge over the Monocacy
river.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Levy court of Frederick county, be and it is here-
by authorised to allow and pay to James Taylor, such ad-
ditional compensation, as said levy court may deem just,
for building a bridge over the Monocacy river, on the
turnpike road, leading from Taney town to Emmitsburg,
in said county; and that said Levy court levy on the asses-
sable property of said county, such sum as may be, by said
court, allowed to the said James Taylor.
