extended for the period of four years, thus always leaving two

or three of said Commissioners, as the case may be, in office,

be the owner of a freehold or leasehold estate within said

town, and must have resided or carried on his principal busi-

56. The male citizens of said town of twenty-one years of

age or over who have resided therein one year preceding any

election, and all male citizens of like age residing in Somerset
|
 
|
County and owning freehold or leasehold property within the
|
 
|
limits of said town for a term of over two years or over, shall
|
 
|
elect by ballot on the first Wednesday in June, 1904, and bi-
|
 
|
ennially thereafter, on the same day, Commissioners in num-
|
 
|
ber sufficient to fill the place of such Commissioners whose
|
 
|
terms shall have expired ; provided, that, in addition to the
|
 
|
qualifications hereinbefore mentioned, they shall possess the
|
 
|
following qualifications : ( 1 ) Any male citizen of said age
|
 
|
who has never been convicted of an infamous crime in the
|
 
|
State of Maryland or in any other of the States of the United
|
 
|
States, or in any foreign country, shall be entitled to vote.
|
 
|
(2) If prior to January 1, 1868, a citizen of said town was en-
|
 
|
titled to vote in this State or any other State of the United
|
 
|
States at a State election, he shall be entitled to vote; and (3)
|
 
|
If such citizen of said town is a lawful male descendant of a
|

person who, prior to January 1, 1868, was entitled to vote in
this State or in any other State of the United States at a State
|
 
|
election, he shall be entitled to vote ; and no person not quali-
|
 
|
fied as above mentioned shall be entitled to vote at elections

for Commissioners of Crisfield.

|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
|
 
|
from the date of its passage.
