the securities to be approved by the Councilmen, in the sum

of five hundred dollars for the faithful discharge of his duties.

And the Councilmen and the officers of the corporation, be-
|

fore entering upon their respective offices, shall take oath
|
 
|
that they will faithfully discharge the duties of their office
|
 
|
without partiality. If the persons elected Burgess and Coun-
|
 
|
cilmen respectively, or any of them, shall fail to take the
|
 
|
oath prescribed in this section within ten days after notice of
|

their election shall have been communicated to them in writing
|

by the person who, under the ordinances of the town, may

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the Burgess and Councilmen

at which meeting the Burgess shall preside and if, during

their term of office, any of the Councilmen or if the Burgess

shall die, resign or remove from said town, an election shall

be called by said Burgess, or in the event of his death or res-
|
 
|
ignation, the Councilmen to fill the vacancy; at which election
|
 
|
all persons qualified under Section 3 of this Article shall be
|
 
|
entitled to vote ; said person or persons to hold office until the
|
 
|
next general election.

|
SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the said Burgess and Coun-
|

cilmen shall organize and elect a Treasurer and a Secretary
|

from their number, and all orders for money to be paid out

shall be countersigned by the Burgess. The Treasurer's salary
|

shall be three hundred dollars per annum. The Treasurer

shall collect all taxes levied by the Burgess and Councilmen,

and shall have the same power to distrain and sell therefor
|
 
|
as collectors of county taxes; all ordinances passed by said
|
 
|
Councilmen and signed by the Burgess shall be entered by the
|
 
|
Secretary in a book to be kept by him for that purpose, which
|
 
|
shall at all times be open for public inspection. The Treas-
|
 
|
urer shall receive and disburse, on the order of the Bur-
|
 
|
gess, all moneys collected under the ordinances of the cor-
|
