1840. On motion of Mr. John P. Kennedy, Three certificates were then prepared by the Secretary, according to the aforegoing Form; to each of which, the Secretary annexed one of the Certificates furnished by the State Executive Authority. The said Electoral Certificates were duly signed and sealed by the Electors; they were then folded, sealed up and endorsed by the Electors with their names, and the following memorandum; " Certificate of the Election of President and Vice President of the United States of America, in and for the State of Maryland, December 2nd. 1840," and addressed " To the Honorable, The President of the Senate of the United States, Washington." Where upon, the President delivered one of them to Mr. Richard J. Bowie, to be by him deposited in the Post Office in the City of Annapolis: and one other to Mr. David Hoffman, to be by him conveyed and delivered to the Judge of the District Court of the United States for the District of Maryland. On motion of M. David Hoffman, The following Form of Credential was read and adopted, and the blank filled with the name of Jos. H. Nicholson.
