85. of the United States of America, duly elected in and for the State of Maryland, having met at the City of Annapolis, on the day prescribed by the Constitution and Laws of the United States to perform the trust reposed in us; and having voted, and made out in due form certificates and lists of the votes given and the persons voted for; and having confidence in _________________ Esquire, of the City of Annapolis, have appointed and, by there presents, do appoint and authorise him to take charge of one of said Certificates and Lists, and, with all convenient despatch to convey and deliver the same to the President of the Senate of the United States, at Washington. In witness whereof, we have hereunto set our Hands and Seals, this Second day of December, in the year one Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty. The said credential was accordingly prepared, in due form, by the Secretary, and signed and sealed by the Electors; Whereupon the President delivered it with the other (the third) electoral certificate to Jos. H. Nicholson, with the direction to convey it with all convenient despatch before the First Wednesday in January ensuing to the President of the Senate of the United States at Washington; and, in the event of there being no President of the Senate, as aforesaid, to deposite the same safely in the office of the |
