passed at November session, seventeen hundred and eighty-two,
entitled, An act for the more effectual paving the streets
of Baltimore-town,
in Baltimore county, and for other purposes
therein mentioned. |

WHEREAS by an act of assembly passed at November
session, seventeen
hundred and eighty-two, for the more effectual paving the streets
of Baltimore-town, in Baltimore county, and for other purposes
therein mentioned, it was enacted, that a tax of twelve shillings and six-pence
should be levied on every foot of improved or unimproved lots in those
parts of the streets fixed on to be paved, or that might have been then
paved under a former law, and also a tax of six shillings and three-pence
on
every foot front of improved and unimproved lots in those parts of the
lanes and
alleys fixed on to be paved, or that might have been then paved under a
former
act: And whereas the price of materials and labour hath fallen very
considerably
since the passage of the said act, |
Preamble. |
II. Be it enacted,
by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the sum of
six shillings and three-pence current money only be hereafter levied on
every foot
front of improved or unimproved lots in those parts of the streets which
shall be
hereafter paved, and the sum of three shillings and two-pence current money
only
on every foot front of improved or unimproved lots in those parts of the
lanes
and alleys which shall be hereafter paved by the said special commissioners
appointed
by virtue of the said act of November session, seventeen hundred and
eighty-two, for the more effectual paving the streets of Baltimore-town,
in Baltimore
county, and for other purposes therein mentioned. |

III. And be
it enacted, That no street, lane or alley whatever, within the
limits of Baltimore-town, shall be hereafter paved by virtue of the said
act of
November session, seventeen hundred and eighty-two, unless the same be
done
with the consent and approbation of the town commissioners had in writing. |

IV. And be it
enacted, That in every case where the special commissioners
shall be of opinion that any particular street, lane or alley, ought to
be paved by
virtue of the act aforesaid, notice thereof shall be given to the clerk
of the town
commissioners, who shall immediately thereupon call a meeting of the
said town
commissioners, for the purpose of fixing a day when the said town commissioners
shall meet again, to determine on the propriety of paving the said
street, lane
or alley. |

V. And be it
enacted, That two weeks notice, in the public papers, be given
of the time and place of meeting of the said town commissioners, and of
the
street, lane or alley, for the paving of which application shall have been
made by
