and the said commissioners are hereby empowered and directed, at
such convenient times as they may think proper, and after three weeks
notice in
the Baltimore news-paper for the lands in Baltimore-town, and six weeks
for the
other lands, to set up and expose to sale by auction (appointing the
auctioneer of
the county where the property lies, or such other person as they think
proper,
allowing for his trouble not exceeding at the rate of one half per
cent.) any of the
said parcels, on the terms of paying one fifth part of the sum bid
in specie, at
the rate of seven shillings and six-pence per Spanish dollar, and the remaining
four fifths part thereof in the new bills of credit emitted by this state,
and the
new continental bills of credit emitted in this state, at seven shillings
and six-pence
per dollar, the specie to be paid within three weeks from the day of sale,
one half of the bills of credit to be paid within two months after the
said sale,
and the remainder within four months from the sale; but if the first and
second
payments shall not be made by the times limited, the commissioners may
advertise
and expose the land again for sale; if the first payment shall be made
and the
second neglected, the first payment shall be forfeited, but if default
shall be made
in the last payment, the second being made, no conveyance shall be made
till the
last payment shall be made up, with ten per cent. interest; and
if the said Thomas
Russell shall consent to have his undivided part of the said land laid
out and
sold with the other, he shall have his just proportion of the purchase
money paid
over to him on the receipt thereof, and the money received belonging to
the public
shall be from time to time paid into the treasury of the shore on which
the land lies. |

VII. And be
it enacted, That this state will for ever warrant and secure to
the
purchasers and their heirs any British property sold in pursuance of this
act, and
will protect them in the peaceable possession thereof. |
No property
to be sold but
what belongs
to British
subjects,
&c. |
VIII. And,
to prevent any injury or inconvenience from the sale of any property
as belonging to any of the person herein before mentioned, which does not
belong to some of them, Be it enacted,
That the said commissioners shall not
proceed to the sale of any property under this act, as belonging to any
of the said
persons, and being confiscated because of their being British subjects,
but what
they shall be fully and clearly satisfied did belong to them, and hath
not been
sold or conveyed since the first day of December, seventeen hundred and
eighty. |

An ACT for the payment of the journal of accounts. |

At a SESSION of the GENERAL ASSEMBLY
of MARYLAND, begun and held at the
city of
ANNAPOLIS, on Thursday the tenth of May, in
the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred
and eighty-one, and ended the 27th
day of June:
The following laws were enacted.

CHAP. I.
An ACT for the adjournment and continuance of the general court of
the western
and eastern shore, and the several county courts therein
mentioned, and for the
other purposes therein mentioned.
The general court for the western shore
is adjourned from the first Monday in July to the second
Tuesday in October, and the eastern shore court from some time in August
to the second Tuesday in
September next. June courts for Talbot and Worcester are adjourned
to the first Monday in August,
for Dorchester to the second Monday in August, for Somerset to the third
Monday in August, and for
Cæcil to the last Monday in July. Every court in the state
is empowered, at discretion, to continue the
actions now depending, or which may hereafter be commenced, during the
present war, and the act to
limit the continuance of actions, &c. so far as relates to the continuance
of causes, is suspended during
the war. |
