or perpretated or which hereafter Shall happen to bee done or perpretated in
the County aforesaid against the Lawes and orders of this Province Provided that
you proceed not in any of the Cases aforesaid to take Life or member but that in
every Such Case you Send the Prisoners with their Indictments and the whole
matter depending before you to the next Provintiall Court to be holden for this
our province whensoever or wheresoever to be holden there to be tryed and
Further Wee doe hereby Authorize and Impower [you] to Issue out writts process
and Attachments and to hold p[l]ea of Oyer and terminer in all personall Actions
and after Judgment Execution to Award in all Causes Civil whither Reall or
personall According to the Lawes orders and Reasonable customs made and Pro-
vided in this our province of Maryland In which Causes Civill Soe to be tryed
(Excepting as before Excepted) Wee doe Constitute ordaine and Appoint you
the Severall and Respective persons as aforesaid to be Judges as aforesaid And
therefore Wee doe Command you that you doe dilligently Attend the keeping
of the Peace Lawes and orders of all and Singular other the premises and at Cer-
taine dayes Appoynted According to Act of Assembly in Such Cases made and
Provided (and at Such place which you or any five or more of you as aforesaid
Shall in that behalfe Appoynt) you make Enquiry upon the premises and per-
forme and fullfill the Same in forme aforesaid doing therein what to Justice
Appertaineth According to the Lawes orders and Reasonable Customs of this
our Province And therefore Wee Command the Sheriffe of our Said County by
vertue of these presents that at the place and at the days aforesaid that you or any
Such five or more of you as aforesaid Shall make knowne to him that he gives
his Attendance on you (And if need Requier to Cause to Come before you or any
Such five or more of you Such and Soe many good and Lawfull men of your
County by whome the truth of the premises may be the Better knowne and
Inquired of and lastly you Shall Cause to be brought before you at the day and
at the place aforesaid the writts precepts process and Indictments to your Court
and Jurisdiction belonging that the Same may be Inspected and by due Course
determined [169] As Aforesaid Wittness our trusty and wellbeloved Francis
Nicholson Esq. our Captain Generall and Governor in Cheife in and over our
Province and Territory of Maryland the fourth day of June in the ninth yeare
of our Reigne Annoque Domini one thowsand Six hundred Ninety and Seaven.

On the back of the aforesaid Commission of the Peace was Written.

William the third by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland
King Defender of the faith etc. to Thomas Hollyday William Barton and John
Wighte of Prince Georges County Gentlemen Greeting Wee doe Authorize and
Impower you the Said William Barton and John Wighte or either of you to
Administer the Oaths Appointed by Act of Parliment to be taken Instead of
the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy as alsoe the oath of Justice to the Said
Thomas Hollyday and you the Said Thomas Hollyday haveing taken the Said
Oaths are to Administer the Same to the Said William Barton and John Wighte
and the rest of the Justices and Commisioners of the Said County Respectively
as they are Named in the within written Commission and that you and every of
you doe Severally Subscribe the test and for Soe doeing this Shall be your
Suffitient Authoritye hereof faile not and when you have Soe done you are to
Certifie the Same under hour hands and Scales unto us in our high Court of
Chancery with all Convenient Speed Wittness our trusty and well beloved Francis
Nicholson Esq: our Captain Generall and Governor in Cheife in and over our
Province and Territory of Maryland the fourth day of June in the ninth yeare
