two of the Code of Public Local Laws, under the sub-
title "sales of spirituous or fermented liquors," to
take effect on the first day of May next.

 

SEC. 166. No person in Worcester county, shall
obtain a license for the sale or barter of spirituous or
fermented liquors in any quantity whatever, except
such as shall be qualified as hereinafter provided.

SEC. 167. Any person in Worcester county, who
may keep a house for the reception of guests, or of
permanent or transient boarders, containing at least
four chambers more than are needed for his family
purposes, and which said tour or more chambers are
used for the reception of guests or permanent or tran-
sient boarders, containing therein for use at all times,
at least six good beds with sufficient covering there-
for, and having upon his premises, a stable or stables,
sufficient for the accommodation of five or more
horses, shall be deemed and considered to be a hotel
keeper within the meaning of this act.

SEC. 168. Any such hotel keeper in Worcester
county, may file his petition with the. Clerk of the
Circuit Court for Worcester county, setting forth
therein that he wishes to sell or barter intoxicating,
spirituous or fermented liquors by the drink only; and
any storekeeper, except apothecaries, in said county,
may file his petition as above stated to sell intoxicat-

less than a pint, provided he shall file with said peti-
tion a written certificate, signed by twelve freehol-
ders, resident citizens of the school district in which
said applicant desires to sell intoxicating liquor,
setting forth their belief that the applicant for such
license will keep an orderly house, and duly observe
the provisions of this act, and if said applicant be a

hotel keeper, shall satisfy the said clerk by his own
oath, and by the oath of two respectable and disin-
terested witnesses, of their belief therein, that he has
bonafide, and without intending to evade the spirit
and meaning of this act, duly provided, and will
maintain and keep for use, at least, six good beds
with sufficient covering therefor, and at least four
chambers more than is or may be sufficient for the
private or family purposes of said hotel keeper, with
