LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Give notice.

eighteen hundred and seventy-six, which election
shall be held in accordance with the law governing
general elections in this State, and the sheriff of said
county shall give notice of the time and purpose of
said election by advertisement inserted in all the
newspapers published in said county once a week
for two successive weeks, and by handbills posted in
each election district in said county at least ten days
before the said election, in which notice a copy of
this act shall be inserted, and the expenses of said
election including the notices and handbills aforesaid
shall be levied by the commissioners of said county
and paid by the collector thereof.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That ballots for or against
such sale shall have printed or written on them the
words, " for restricted license to sell spirituous or
fermented liquors" or "against license for the sale
of spirituous or fermented liquors, " and the ballots
so cast shall be carefully counted by the judges of
said election, and that said judges shall make a re-

turn of said votes to the Clerk of the Circuit Court
for Worcester county; and said clerk shall immedi-
ately make proclamation of the result of said election.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That if it shall be found
by said returns of judges of election, and proclama-
tion of the said clerk, that a majority of said votes
have been cast against license for the sale of spirit-
uous or fermented liquors, that then and in that
event, it shall not be lawful for any person or persons
or body corporate, to sell intoxicating, spirituous
or fermented liquors, except cider and homemade
wines, in said county, after the first day of May next,
and any person violating the provisions of this sec-
tion, shall upon indictment and conviction therefor,

than two hundred dollars, and be imprisoned in the
county jail ten days for each offence.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That if it shall be found
by said returns of judges of said election and proc-
lamation of said clerk, that a majority of said votes
have been cast for restricted license to sell spirituous
or fermented liquors, that then and in that event, the
