CHAP. 111.

                                LAWS OF MARYLAND.

and partly by oxen, two oxen shall be estimated as equal to one
horse, and every mule as equal to one horse, in the charge of said
tollage.

Dividends to be 
made half yearly.
    16.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That at the end of every half year
after the bridge shall be erected, the president and directors
aforesaid for the time being shall make and declare dividends of
the tolls or profits arising therefrom amongst the several stockholders
in the said company, in proportion to their respective shares
of stock, and shall pay over such dividends, when demanded, to
the person or persons entitled to the same.
Powers imposed 
upon president,
&c. may be exercised
by a majority
of them.
    17.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That all the powers and duties herein
before given to, or imposed upon the president and directors aforesaid,
shall and may be exercised and performed by a majority of
them.
Assent of state given
to the U. S. to
hold stock in company.
    18.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the assent of this state be and
the same is hereby given to the United States to take and hold stock
in the said company, and to subscribe for the same in such manner
as they may direct and appoint.

                                           CHAP. CXII.
An Act to make public the Road therein mentioned.  Lib. TH. No.
                                              2, fol. 109.
A certain road to
be opened and extended.
    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
the road which leads from Thomas Wells's by the Windsor mills,
until it intersects the White Ground Road, shall be extended of the
width of thirty feet, and shall be opened under the direction of the
commissioners herein after mentioned; and the said road, when so
opened, shall thereafter be deemed and taken as a public road, and
as such be used by all persons passing that way.
And widened.     2.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said road shall be widened
and hereafter kept in repair by the persons interested therein.
Sum which each
person benefitted
by opening road
is to pay, to be ascertained.
    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That Job Smith, John Hasslebaugh and
John McClellan, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners
to ascertain the sum which each person shall pay for widening and
keeping the said road in repair, and the decision of the said commissioners,
or a majority of them, shall be binding upon the epersons
benefitted by said road; and when the said commissioners, or 
a majority, shall so decide, the sum adjudged by them to be paid
by the several persons interested in said road, shall be recovered
from said person in the same manner that small debts are recoverable,
in the name of the overseer of said road for the time being.
Overseer to be appointed.     4.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the levy court of Baltimore county
shall annually appoint an overseer to superintend the keeping
the said road in repair.
