CHAP. 29.

                                LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Creek, is very much out of repair, and that it is difficult to raise
by voluntary contribution funds sufficient for repairing said church,
and have prayed a law may pass authorising a scheme or schemes
of a lottery to raise a sum of money, not exceeding three thousand
dollars, to defray the expenses thereof; therefore,

Scheme may be
proposed—bond
to be given.
    2.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
it shall be lawful for George Eberharte, George Mathias, Henry
Wareham, junior, Joseph Mathias, junior, George Reinharte,
Abraham Bixler and Adam Bish, or a majority of them, to propose
a scheme or schemes of a lottery to raise such sum of money
as may be necessary, not exceeding three thousand dollars, and to
sell and dispose of the tickets therein; provided said George Eberharte,
George Mathias, Henry Wareham, junior, Joseph Mathias,
junior, George Reinharte, Abraham Bixler and Adam Bish, or a
majority of them, before the sale of any ticket or tickets in said
lottery, give bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of six
thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well and truly apply
so much of the money arising therefrom, within six months after 
the drawing thereof, as will pay the fortunate adventurers for prizes
drawn by them in said lottery, and the residue to the repairing
the said church and defraying the necessary expenses incurred in
the management of the said lottery.
Bond to be lodged
in clerk's office.
    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall be lodged in
the clerk's office of Baltimore county, to be there recorded, and upon
such bond, or office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
against the obligors therein, or any of them, or their or 
any of their legal representatives, for any breach or noncompliance
with the condition of the same.

                                        CHAP. XXX.
An Act to authorise a Lottery to raise a sum of money for building a
    School-House in the Village of Denton, in Caroline County.

    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for Thomas Richardson, Solomon Brown,
Alexander Maxwell, junior, Henry Helm, William Potter, William
Hughlett and George Reid, or a majority of them, to propose a
scheme of a lottery for raising a sum of money, not exceeding one
thousand dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tickets thereof;
provided the said Thomas Richardson, Solomon Brown, Alexander
Maxwell, junior, Henry Helm, William Potter, William Hughlett
and George Reid, or such majority of them as shall undertake
to act under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket
or tickets in said lottery, give their bond to the state of Maryland,
in the penalty of three thousand dollars, conditioned that
they will well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom,
within six months after the drawing of said lottery shall
commence, as will satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes
drawn by them, and after deducting the necessary expenses incurred
in said lottery, shall, within twelve months from the time of
drawing said lottery shall commence, apply the money arising from
such lottery towards the building a school-house in the village of
Denton, in Caroline county, under the direction of such person or
persons as a majority of the commissioners, for the time being, of
the village of Denton, shall appoint.
