CHAP. XC.
An Act authorising a Lottery to raise a sum of money to purchase
a
Fire Engine, and finish the Church in Westminster-Town,
in Frederick

1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
James McHaffee, Jacob Shriver, Daniel Zacharias, John Fisher
and Jacob Yingling, or a majority of them, be and they are hereby
authorised to propose a scheme or schemes of a lottery for raising
a sum of money, not exceeding two thousand dollars, and to
sell and dispose of the tickets thereof; provided, that the said
James McHaffee, Jacob Shriver, Daniel Zacharius, John Fisher
and Jacob Yingling, or a majority of them, before they proceed to
the sale of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, shall give bond
to
the state of Maryland in the penalty of six thousand dollars, conditioned,
that they will well and truly apply the monies arising
therefrom, within nine months after the drawing thereof, to the payment
of the prizes drawn therein to the adventurers to whom they
shall be due, and after deducting the necessary expenses incurred
in the management thereof, shall apply the residue, within eighteen
months, to the purchase of a fire engine, and finishing and completing
the church in said town. |

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall
be lodged in
the clerk's office of Frederick county, to be there recorded, and
upon such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be
instituted for any breach or non-compliance with the condition
thereof. |

An Act to confirm a certain Road therein mentioned. Lib.

A certain road
declared public. |
BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That
the road leading from James Crawford's gate, on the main road
from the town of Upper-Marlborough, in Prince-George's county,
to Bladensburgh, until it intersects the main road leading from the
city of Annapolis to Bladensburgh, by Jonathan Beall's, be and
the same is hereby declared a public highway, and to be kept up
and repaired in the same manner as other public roads in said
county. |

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly,
by the petition
of sundry inhabitants of Charles county, that it will greatly
promote the convenience of the inhabitants thereof by laying out,
opening and making public, a road therein mentioned, and praying
that commissioners may be appointed to lay out and open the
