that said church is much out of repair, and will soon be in a
ruinous state, unless covered with a new roof, that other repairs
are necessary, and that they are desirous of building a parsonage-house;
that the congregation is greatly diminished in numbers, and
that their funds are insufficient for the above mentioned purposes,
and have prayed that a law may pass authorising a lottery to enable
them to raise a sum of money, not exceeding two thousand dollars,
on their giving bond to the state of Maryland, to be applied
to the uses aforesaid; therefore, |

2. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for the trustees of said church, or a majority
of them, to propose a scheme of a lottery to raise such sum
of money as may be necessary, not exceeding two thousand dollars,
and to sell and dispose of the tickets therein; provided said trustees,
or a majority of them, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or
tickets in said lottery, give bond to the state of Maryland, in the
penalty of four thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well and
truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom, within six
months after the drawing thereof, as will pay the fortunate adventurers
for prizes drawn by them in said lottery, and the residue to
the repairing of said church, erecting a parsonage-house, and the
defraying the necessary expenses incurred in the management of
said lottery. |

3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall
be lodged in
the clerk's office of Cecil county, to be there recorded, and upon
such bond, or an office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
against the obligors therein, or any of them, or their or any of their
legal representatives, for any breach or non-compliance with the
condition of the same. |

Preamble. |
WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly,
by the petition
of a number of the inhabitants of Baltimore county, that
they have erected a frame building, about twenty miles from the
city of Baltimore, and near the main road leading from thence to
McAllister's-town, commonly called the Baptist frame Meeting-house,
and free for all religious societies occasionally as a house of
worship, not having it in their power to raise, by voluntary contributions,
a sufficient sum to finish the said house of worship, have
prayed that a law may pass authorising a lottery to raise the necessary
sum to finish the same; therefore, |
