Maryland, in the penalty of three thousand dollars, conditioned that
they will well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom,
within six months after the drawing of said lottery shall be
finished, as shall satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn
by them, and the residue to the finishing of said building, after deducting
necessary expenses incurred in drawing said lottery.

    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall be lodged in
the clerk's office of Cecil county, to be there recorded, and upon
such bond, or an office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
for any breach or non-compliance with the condition thereof.

                                        CHAP. IX.
An Act authorising a Lottery to raise a sum of money for the purpose
    of defraying the expense accrued in building a House of Worship
    in the Town of Emmitsburgh, in Frederick County. Lib. JG.
    No. 4, fol. 363.

Passed Dec. 31.
    WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition
of sundry inhabitants of the town Emmitsburgh, in Frederick
county, and its vicinity, that the lutherans and presbyterians
have united and built a house of worship sufficiently large to accommodate
both congregations alternately, called Eli's Church, that
their funds are insufficient to pay the expense accrued for building
the same, and have prayed that an act may pass authorising a lottery
to raise a sum of money, not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars,
for the purpose of defraying the expense accrued in finishing said
church; therefore,
Preamble.
    2.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
it shall and may be lawful for Philip Nunemaker, Jacob Troxel,
Lewis Morter, Peter Troxel and John Hoover, or a majority of
them, to propose a scheme of a lottery for raising such sum of money
as they, or a majority of them, shall consider sufficient to defray
the expense accrued for building said church, not exceeding
fifteen hundred dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tickets thereof;
provided the said Philip Nunemaker, Jacob Troxel, Lewis Morter,
Peter Troxel and John Hoover, or a majority of them, who undertake
to act under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal of 
any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give their bond to the state of
Maryland, in the penalty of three thousand dollars, conditioned that
they will well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom,
within six months after the drawing of said lottery shall be
finished, as shall satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn
by them, and the residue shall be applied to the payment of the money
due for finishing said building, after deducting the necessary expenses
incurred in drawing said lottery.
