                APPENDIX——RESOLUTIONS.

trustee, all the old six per cent. and deferred and three per
cent stocks, now standing in his name belonging to the state.

NOV. SESS.
      1812.
                                        No. 2.
    WHEREAS, the secretary at war of the United States did require
from the late governor of this state, that he order into service
at Annapolis a portion of this state's quota of militia; and
whereas, the said requisition has been gratified, and as it is represented
to this general assembly that the troops thus required and
now stationed at Annapolis, have not been provided by the general
government with the clothing necessary for their protection from
the inclemency of the present and approaching season:

Passed Nov. 23.
    RESOLVED, That the governor and council be, and they are
hereby requested to cause to be purchased for the use of the militia
now stationed at Annapolis, sufficient clothing for the season.
    RESOLVED, That a sum not exceeding five thousand dollars be
appropriated for the above object out of any unappropriated money
in the treasury, and that the treasurer of the western shore
pay the same to the order of the governor and council.

                                        No. 6.
    RESOLVED, That Benjamin Harwood, trustee of the state be, and
he is hereby authorised and directed, to transfer the amount of thirty
thousand dollars of the six per cent. stock of the United States, to
the president and directors of the Potomac Company, upon their
pledging the funds of said company, and upon the president and
directors giving bond with such security as the treasurer may approve
of for the reimbursement of the principal in instalments of
three four and five years, with interest upon the whole amount of
principal from the date of the transfer and the payment of such
interest annually.

                                        No. 7.
    WHEREAS, by a resolution of the general assembly of Maryland,
of November session of eighteen hundred and six, the governor
and council were authorised and required to procure three
elegant swords and belts with an appropriate engraving and motto,
emblematic of the glorious actions fought off Tripoli, and cause
the same to be delivered to Charles Gordon, John Tripp and John
Davis, in testimony of the high sense of approbation the legislature
of this state entertained of their gallant conduct:  And whereas,
by the death of John Davis before the resolution could be fully
carried into effect, the sword intended for him now remains in the
council chamber; therefore,

Passed Dec. 23.
    RESOLVED, That the governor and council be, and they are
hereby authorised and directed to present to the nearest surviving
male relation of the said John Davis, the sword thus intended for
the said John Davis.

                                        No. 8.
    WHEREAS, it is not only a generous and noble, but also a wise
policy in us, as a free and republican government, to distinguish
with our highest approbation, expressed in the most pointed and
emphatic manner, such of our citizens as evince by their actions a
particular devotion to the common weal, so that all may be stimulated
to virtuous actions, conscious that if it is deserved they will
experience the gratitude of their country; and thus an holy emulation
will be excited amongst us, in performing such deeds both in
