TREASURERS

 

            INDEX TO THE LAWS.
 

—To direct suits against clerks, sheriffs and collectors,
refusing or neglecting to pay monies in their
hands,
—To appoint any attorney to such suits, provided
that the money recovered shall be paid to the treasurer
only,
    Consequence of payment not being made to them by
clerks against whom executions have issued two successive
terms,
    See Clerks.
    A statement of the proceedings of the treasurers, in
pursuance of this act, to be laid annually before the
general assembly,
    The compensation of the keeper of the penitentiary,
and his deputies, to be paid quarterly at the treasury,
    Orders directed to be drawn on the treasurer of the
western shore by the governor and council, for the appropriations
therein mentioned for the penitentiary,
    The treasurers exempted in part from militia
duty,
    Fines on the sentences of militia courts martial to be
paid to the treasurers,
    The treasurers provisionally authorised to subscribe
to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal Company,
    The treasurers to pay annually to the registers of 
the land office their allowance under the act for the
valuation of property, &c.
    The treasurer of the western shore directed to pay
to the order of the governor the sum therein limited
for discharging militia claims,
    Additional allowance to the assistant keepers of the
penitentiary, to be paid by the treasurer of the western
shore,
    The treasurer directed to invest in stock of the Commercial
and Farmers Bank, and the Mechanics Bank,
for which the state is authorised to subscribe, money
received in virtue of this act, to be a fund for the establishment
of free schools,
    The treasurers to pay annually, in quarterly payments,
half pay to persons disabled in the militia service,
    The Westminster Bank to pay annually, to the treasurer
of the western shore 20 cents on every $100 of the
capital stock actually paid in, as a fund for county
schools,
—Same, as to the Planters Bank of Prince-George's
county,
—Same, as to the Centreville Bank of Maryland,
—Same, as to the Farmers Bank of Leonard-town,
—Same, as to the Frederick County Bank,
—Same, as to the North and South Branch Bank
of Potomac,
    The securities in the annual bond required from the
printer to the state for faithful performance, &c. to be
approved by the treasurer of the western shore, and
the bond lodged with him,
    The treasurer of the western shore authorised to receive
payment of debts due from the United States, for
expenditures during the late war, such securities,
stock, or current money, as may be agreed on by the
agent, under the direction of the governor and council,
—Authorised and directed to pay 500 dollars annually
to the governor and council or their order, for the
purpose of executing the supplement to the act for the
speedy conveyance of public letters, &c.
—Required to pay to commissioners in any county
their proportion of the school fund, and for that purpose
to dispose of the parts requisite,
